about me
My name is Krista Meyers and I am an educator deeply passionate about fostering student growth and creating a nurturing learning environment. I am dedicated to personalized instruction, collaborative learning, and fostering a sense of community. My road to teaching has been filled with many twists and turns, but each of them has prepared me for this moment. I am a career changer after spending 10 years working in government at the Town of Brookhaven. While my time in public service was fulfilling in its own right, I felt a longing for something more personal and impactful. I grew professionally during my tenure and gained many transferable skills that can be useful in the class. Most importantly I learned the importance of cultivating relationships, which I am very proud of.
RESume
Philosophy of Education
I believe that respectful, caring bonds with children and their families are the vital foundation for a school experience. As an educator of young children, I realize the immense honor I have in playing a small role alongside their parents in teaching these little people how to be people.
A good education prepares students to be productive and empathetic members of society. My philosophy of education is holistic and nurturing, focusing on academics and the child's overall development.
A strong partnership and relationship with parents foster a supportive environment for learning. Encouraging a love of learning instills a lifelong curiosity and passion for knowledge. Though equally important, teaching students the confidence to take risks and failure – is ok! I hope to cultivate resilience and a strong growth mindset in my students.
Piaget advocated for discovery learning, in which students actively explore and experiment to uncover new knowledge. I want discovery learning to be the core of my classroom. Having my students be exposed to different types of learning including hands-on experiences. Discovery learning encourages students to engage with material in a way that promotes deeper understanding and long-term retention. I hope to creatively bridge real-life experience and the local community inside my classroom.
